Development Surveyor

A local authority based in North Yorkshire are looking for an experienced Development Surveyor to join their Economic Development and Regeneration department. This role will be supporting place shaping priorities as identified in the Council's Corporate Plan and Economic Development Strategy. You will be providing specialist technical advice to Councillors, the Housing Trust Board, managers and staff on development options.

Responsibility

• Assessing land and property use requirements, including both traffic and infrastructure
• Identify new opportunities for development and regeneration, in line with the Council's policies
• Consider the physical, environmental and social impact of any proposed developments
• Advocate the conservation and protection of historic or environmentally significant sites/areas
• Promote the use of effective land management and administration as a key driver behind economic development

Operational

• Interpret data to help inform decision making
• Communicate and negotiate effectively with colleagues, clients and financial stakeholders
• Undertake development appraisals for both internal and external clients
• Negotiate the disposal of sites
• Assessment of assets- viability, in use etc.

Qualifications

• Degree or professional qualification in surveying or related subject
• Member of (or studying to become a member of) the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or other appropriate professional qualification/membership

Additional Experience

• Knowledge of regeneration and redevelopment of brownfield sites
• Project management experience
• Experience working in a local authority previously
• Able to develop influential relationships with a range of local, sub-regional and national stakeholders
• Experience of report writing in a public sector environment
