Building surveying is one of the core services delivered by the organisation's programme and project team, and they provide crucial expert advice to clients based on the in-depth inspection of existing buildings and structures.

The building surveying team work on an extensive range of exciting projects and cover all manner of properties including residential, retail, office, education, leisure, healthcare, heritage and industrial buildings on behalf of numerous different clients.

The business are now looking for a senior Building Surveyor to join their London Building Surveying team to focus on project work throughout the Greater London area.


Your new role

Working from either the central London or Surrey office, you will be working as a Senior Building Surveyor, providing services to clients across the South Eastern region, focusing predominantly on the Greater London area.

Your new role will involve working on a variety of instructions across multiple sectors simultaneously, however there will be a bias towards Public Sector & Local Authority projects.

You will be responsible for carrying out surveys and building inspections, analysing building defects, writing specifications and producing schedules of work for a range of building projects, such as internal and external refurbishments, repairs and fit-outs.

You will be responsible for contract administration for both NEC and JCT contracts and will implement your knowledge of quality control and safety throughout the management of projects.

In addition to the above responsibilities you will report directly to senior managers and support where possible in their day-to-day activities.


What you'll need to succeed

In order to succeed in this role you will firstly need a minimum of a BSc or equivalent degree level qualification in Building Surveying or a closely related subject, preferably accredited by the RICS.

As this is a senior position, you will need experience carrying out the above responsibilities independently on a daily basis without supervision, and ideally will have held a senior Building Surveyor previously.

In addition, you will need experience acting as the key point of contact for clients, managing their expectations, providing clarity through clear, regular communication. This coupled with a strong understanding of profitability, business development, and sound commercial awareness will be crucial for this role.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of drafting technical documents, including bids, have a full understanding of Health and Safety requirements, will possess excellent time management and an eye for detail

What you'll get in return

In return for your commitment to the role, you will be provided with a salary bench-marked at £45-50K PA, however if you can demonstrate you have the skills and experience to warrant a higher salary, there is potential for flexibility.

In addition to your basic salary, the business offers a car allowance of £4,000 PA, a holiday allowance of 25 days (+Bank Holidays) with the option to buy and sell holiday days where required.

Annual salary reviews are conducted each January, these are based on performance and contributions to the business and are at your line manager's discretion.

A company pension is offered and ranges from 2% employee: 4% employer contribution up to 5% employee: 10% employer based on employee age range.

Your business mileage will be covered at government minimum rate of 23p per mile.
