SNC Lavalin’s Faithful+Gould Business in the UK is creating a national role in its central Business Services Team: Construction Data Manager.

The business services team currently comprises 9 people and supports the UK & Europe business in a number of key areas;

  • Strategy & Development
  • Business Change
  • Business Systems
  • Business Assurance
  • Business Intelligence

The Construction Data Manager will be part of the Business Intelligence function and will report to the Business Intelligence Lead. A key objective of the Business Intelligence function is to maintain and extend our market leading position by leveraging construction and other technical data to fuel our innovations and differentiate us from our competitors. The business is data-rich and supported by a bespoke technical data system called Insight, which is deployed worldwide and provides a home for all construction technical data.

A key objective of the Construction Data Manager is to accelerate our data maturity in target sectors across the UK. This will be done by identifying exemplar projects and then gathering and building a complete data set for each in Insight. As data sets grow the roles will be responsible for developing analytics and other business solutions to improve service efficiency and effectiveness.

 

This role will see you be responsible for the following:

  • Be the national point of contact for construction technical data.
  • Work to the plan set by or agreed with the BI Lead.
  • Review the existing construction data standards, then set and promote standards for construction data (NRM1, ICMS). 
  • Prepare an approach and strategy to collect and assure data, and systematically engage with staff to implement that strategy.
  • Contribute to the development of analytics in Insight to reflect business requirements and priorities.
  • Lead the production of the biannual national construction intelligence report.
  • Contribute to other intelligence outputs as required.
  • Engage with digital product owners to align data standards to enable seamless integration.
  • Lead distinct research assignments to enrich analysis, inform technical outputs and thought leadership.
  • Keep sector heads and other senior stakeholder abreast of the status of their technical data sets, and actively monitor and manage improvement.
  • Take technical information in any form, e.g. in spreadsheets, PDF documents, drawings etc, take measurements as required, and convert to data to populate Insight.
  • Work collaboratively with the Construction Data analyst and other members of the Business Services Team.
  • Maintain a view of the market and competitor approaches to construction data and intelligence.
  • Support liaison with construction professional bodies, e.g. RICS


Characteristics & Skills

Essential:

  • Self-motivated and able to work to a plan.
  • Willing to travel across UK offices to engage with staff to deliver the role.
  • Able to build excellent working relationships and to work as a team.
  • Helpful & proactive.
  • Advanced understanding of the construction process.
  • Advanced understanding of construction measurement standards, in particular NRM & ICMS.
  • Statistical analysis and interpreting data.
  • Presenting findings of data analysis in graphical and written form.
  • A finisher that will deliver tasks on time.


Desirable:

  • Experience of working with data bases and analytical tools and technology, e.g. Power BI
