RSPB a million voices for nature
Assistant Regional Land Agent
Based at Denby Dale Regional Officer, West Yorkshire
2 year contract - Full time 37.5 hours per week
The RSPB is a true leader in nature conservation: the largest organisation of its kind in Europe, managing over 200 nature reserves covering over 143,000 hectares. We protect the most special habitats and wildlife in the UK, as well as using many of our reserves as visitor destinations where people of all ages can connect with and be inspired by nature.
The RSPB manages land to the highest standard and, thanks to the passion and professionalism of its staff, is constantly seeking to improve conservation land management, both on its own estate and away from nature reserves. We are seeking a positive, enthusiastic and hardworking individual who is keen to become an integral part of our dynamic team. In return we will offer a varied range of experience encompassing all aspects of rural professional work necessary to meet the requirements of the APC and CAAV.
This new and exciting opportunity has been created within the Northern England Reserves team to assist in providing professional advice in sustainable land use and estate management. The successful candidate will be involved in the day to day management of our varied rural estate which extends over 26,000ha in stunning locations as varied as the Peak District and Lake District national parks, in estuaries on both coasts, and within the post-industrial landscapes near to some of the region’s major cities, our portfolio also includes a number of offices, visitor facilities and residential properties.
As someone sharing our commitment to sustainable high quality land management, you’ll bring innovative professional thinking to support our conservation aims. You’ll share your knowledge, experience and ideas with colleagues across the region, providing support and expertise in all aspects of land and property management. You’ll be working as part of a regional land agency team which forms part of a wider UK team. As part of a team you will be ensuring land agency support is provided to site managers in achieving their conservation and business objectives, helping them meet legal compliance and the high standards expected by the RSPB.
We require a graduate surveyor with a relevant degree in Rural Land Management, who will work as part of an experienced land agency team. An understanding of the countryside and rural environment are an essential requirement. Alongside this knowledge and experience, you’ll be great at working within a team, yet prepared to take a direct approach with colleagues on issues of legal compliance. You’ll thrive on negotiating the best deals for the RSPB and take pride in the part you’ll play in delivering a healthier natural environment for everyone to enjoy.
The successful candidate will be expected to work towards both their APC and CAAV qualifications, for which full support will be given. They will be based in Denby Dale, West Yorkshire and will be required to travel throughout the Northern England Region.
