Consultancy Manager (with a specialism in Building Surveying or Nature Conservation)
Salary: Circa £41,000 per annum, plus car and benefits
Location: Based at Scotney Castle, near Tunbridge Wells, Kent
Contract: Permanent, full time
Ref: IRC1375
About the role
We’re looking for an individual with a specialism in either Building Surveying or Nature Conservation to compliment our National Consultancy Team as you’ll bring the freshest, most innovative thinking in your field to help us achieve our aims.
The role will be based at Scotney Castle, and will focus on a regional portfolio of properties in Kent and East Sussex which includes Batemans, Bodiam, Chartwell, Ightham Mote, Kent Countryside, Knole, Scotney and Sissinghurst. We also want you to share your deep knowledge, insight and ideas with colleagues across an incredible variety of buildings and landscapes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Inspirational people management is critical to this role as you’ll spend half of your time managing a team of multi-disciplinary conservation consultants ranging from Buildings Surveyors and Rural Surveyors to Conservators and Archaeologists. You’ll be responsible for all aspects of their work, from initial recruitment to their successful deployment through to performance management, reward and recognition. You’ll also help property teams to deliver their business plans providing high level advice where conservation risks and opportunities are most acute. And you’ll advise on the planning and delivery of new projects, making sure that we’re placing our properties and visitors at the heart of everything we do.
About you
It’s fair to say that you’ll be an expert in your subject, providing senior technical support and mentoring to professional colleagues. Equally, you’ll be an inspiring, influential people manager. Someone who can get the best out of people and teams, and ensure that we‘re always making the most of available resources and expertise. Thanks to considerable experience of working in a professional environment, you know exactly what it takes to deliver an outstanding consultancy service. Needless to say, you’ll have substantial practical experience – and a thorough understanding – of how to achieve success through effective client/consultant relationships.
Your Professional Specialism
Building Surveying: We are looking for a professional Building Surveyor with excellent knowledge of the heritage and building sector and extensive experience in building conservation, maintenance and repair. You will have demonstrable project management experience and substantial post qualification practical experience in building conservation. An appropriate professional accreditation is essential e.g. Chartered Surveyor (Building Surveying Division of RICS), MCIOB or ARIBA and good knowledge of the relevant legislative requirements relating to the role. You will also have the communication skills necessary to promote a building conservation perspective in various regional forums.
Nature Conservation: We are looking for a Chartered environmental professional with an ecological, conservation or landscape background to develop our Nature Conservation work in the London and South East region. You will have demonstrable experience of directing and managing large-scale environmental projects with a well developed network of contacts within the environmental and countryside sector. In addition to your management experience, your capability in developing business cases and funding applications to deliver projects will be vital to this role. Your expertise in influencing and working in strategic partnerships will enable you to assist in developing the National Trust’s ambitions for Getting Outdoors and Closer to Nature.
Incredibly rewarding
We expect a lot, but we’ll offer a great deal in return, starting with stimulating and challenging work and the opportunity to help us achieve our bold ambitions. But it’s more than that. It’s the opportunity to do something worthwhile, valuable and meaningful. You’ll make a real difference and will play your part in leaving a legacy for generations to come.
Access to our car lease scheme will be available. And because we value your contribution, recognise the importance of a work-life balance, and are committed to your continued development, you can look forward to free admission to all our incredible places, plus a helpful 20% off at our shops, cafes and restaurants. But they’re just the benefits we can tell you about here. There are lots more at www.nationaltrustrewardsandbenefits.org.uk
