Sergon Building Consultants is part of Cunningham Lindsey UK. You will be part of a Regional Management team reporting to the Head of Department / National Operations Manager. You will be responsible for a regional team of up to 10 Surveyors (MRICS, MCIOB, Graduates). The team cover the South & South West of UK (Cornwall / Devon / Somerset / Dorset / Avon / parts of West Sussex / Surrey/Hampshire and Berkshire).

The South & South West team`s current revenue is circa. £1m and we are looking for this to grow over the next 5 years and the successful candidate will be pivotal to this growth potential, in both the insurance and non-insurance surveying sectors. You will be able to build relationships with internal clients, external Insurer clients and successfully develop relationships with new non insurance surveying clients.

Your team are involved in numerous projects to reinstate commercial and domestic properties following damage by an insured peril. Projects typically range in value from £20k to £1m. Dependant on the size and complexity of each project, surveyors typically work alone or lead a small project team.

They are involved in a wide range of surveying activities, ranging from technical reporting, defects diagnosis, preparing Schedule of Works, Contract Administration and project management. As a business we are looking to grow into new sectors for us such as pre-purchase surveys and asset management and condition surveys, so experience in these sectors would be a considerable benefit.

Centralised administrative support is provided from our Support Team in our Solent office. The role itself covers the South & South West of the UK but you may occasionally be asked to assist out of area dependant on business requirements.

You will be required to work very closely with our colleagues in the Loss Adjusting teams in our Plymouth, Bristol, Solent and Redhill offices to build and maintain relationships.

We are ideally looking for a candidate with proven managerial experience of leading a team of Surveyors, but would also consider a talented and ambitious Chartered Building Surveyor wanting to move into management. It`s a great opportunity to build a reputation within a large global organisation.


You will have / will be:

  • Preferably MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor with 2-5 years post qualification (MCIOB will also be considered)

  • A building surveying related Degree with 3-4 years post degree experience

  • Preferably with previous managerial experience in a similar role

  • The confidence to lead a team of Surveyors

  • The ability to build relationships with existing and new clients

  • Extensive knowledge of building construction and relevant legislation

  • Able to plan projects to ensure robust control of time and cost - project management experience is desirable

  • Experience in schedule preparation and contract administration of building projects

  • Highly responsible and decisive, but also a team player

  • Able to proactively manage your own caseload

  • I.T. literate, particularly with MS word, Excel and Apple IOS software and applications

  • Able to appreciate the importance of delivering outstanding customer service

  • Full UK driving licence essential

The ability to arrive on site immediately following a significant building loss and quickly earn the confidence and trust of the insurance policy holder is essential to the success of this role and the team you are to manage. Composure under pressure, excellent communications skills and empathy are therefore key attributes.

Insurance knowledge is desirable but not essential.
