About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for driven and experienced Head of Property to join the British Red Cross and manage a property portfolio comprising of circa 650 properties; including 360 shops.

This is a dynamic property portfolio subject to constant change, and the Head of Property will be responsible for transactions including acquisitions, purchases and leases. You will work with Directors, Heads of Department and staff throughout the organisation to further develop and implement the property strategy and develop robust systems and process to ensure that the Society's extensive property portfolio is optimised and managed effectively.

As Head of Property your role will include but not limited too overall responsibility for the effective management of the negotiation of acquisitions and disposals of properties, to develop and deliver an annual planned maintenance programme for all properties, ensuring that all work is conducted to the highest standards, ensuring that all property transactions are carried out in accordance with Charity Law and internal policy and providing effective leadership and management skills to ensure that all services and procedures meet the changing requirements of the organisation, developing and adapting existing services as required.

About the team
A senior position within the organisation, the Head of Property will report to the Chief Finance Officer. You will lead a team of property professionals who will develop and deliver the property service to the managers and staff. The British Red Cross headquarters building in central London (UKO) is managed by a facilities management team to support the building's 600 staff members; the Facilities Manager for UKO reports to the Head of Property also.

The Head of Property role sits within the Finance, Planning and Resources Directorate which ensures the organisation's effective management of its resources to meet the organisational strategy to focus on making a difference to people in crisis and ensure we are truly aligned to our mission, values and fundamental principles. Working across the organisation, the Directorate ensures that our money, and non-financial resources, for example property, project management resources, are effectively managed to ensure our funds are best used on front line service provision, as well as providing oversight of the management of risk and compliance. The Directorate works through strong organisational links with a focus on engagement through transparency and openness.

About the person
Educated to a degree level or equivalent and a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or demonstrable equivalent experience, candidates should have:

  • Experience of developing and implementing property strategy and policy
  • Management of a large diverse property portfolio
  • Significant experience in working in a similar role
  • Meticulous attention to detail
