Building Control Manager
If you thrive on action, you will love Dartford. Working for an ambitious authority that is well and truly on the map, no two days will be the same. On the edge of London, the Borough is one of the fastest growing in the country, with new communities being formed and a buoyant economy. Hosting Bluewater, the emerging Ebbsfleet Garden City as well as significant new residential and commercial development in Dartford Town Centre, you will work to ensure that the new development meets regulatory standards and delivers a safe and accessible environment for its users.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is able to drive forward the service, maintaining existing business and improving market share where possible. The workload currently comprises householder applications as well as large residential and commercial developments. You will have considerable experience of Building Control in a local authority, with a detailed knowledge of legislation and the ability to apply it to practical situations.
You will supervise and monitor the Building Control Team in order to ensure that an effective and efficient service is provided that will meet the Council’s statutory responsibilities and performance management standards. The service experiences a high level of satisfaction with customers returning to use it again. You will maintain this and ensure the service continues to be accountable and responsive to feedback.
Excellent IT skills and a willingness to develop the service with new technology, strong organisational skills and a customer focussed approach are all essential.
The successful candidate will enjoy flexible working hours, good annual leave and option to join the local government pension scheme. A lease car or cash in lieu is available to the post-holder, with free parking at the office.
The Council’s offices are in a highly accessible location, next to Dartford rail station; with frequent services from Central and south east London (Oyster Card coverage) and Kent. Road connections via the M25 and A2 are also excellent.
