The London Borough of Waltham Forest is committed to Creating Futures, our new Corporate Strategy. This provides a fresh focus and a clear sense of direction. We are fiercely ambitious and strive continuously to make sure each and every one of our residents enjoys a quality life in London.

Effective Property and Asset Management is a key enabler of change and critical to the success of the council achieving our corporate strategy. We have restructured our service, so it is positioned for the future. We work collaboratively with all stakeholders, both across the council and externally, in driving change and making service improvements.

We are recruiting forward-thinking and innovative professionals who’ll place Property and Asset Management at the heart of the council’s broader organisational change agenda.

Working in Capital Delivery, an established professional programme and project management team leading on Education and Corporate capital schemes, you will play a critical part in the continued transformation of the council. The current ambitious capital budget for the council includes £40 million p.a. on improving our school buildings and providing future places, and a 5 year investment plan consisting of corporate office, commercial and housing schemes in excess of £500 million. Key projects that the team is taking forward include:

  • Town Hall Campus –closure of older, less efficient offices and transfer of staff into new space on the Town Hall campus. The feeder sites, along with areas of the campus itself, will be redeveloped to deliver much needed housing.
  • Coronation Square – redevelopment of a prominent Council owned site  to deliver over  800 homes, a civic square, sports hall, health hub, nursery and retail and commercial space.
  • Juniper House – Redevelopment of Juniper House, a former council office, to deliver a mixed-use development, including residential and commercial space.

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of construction projects with values from £200k up to £20 million from stage RIBA Zero to Seven. The projects will cover remedial works to operational properties, provision of new assets, such as offices and libraries, and significant changes to existing operational bases such as our main depot.

About you

As the successful candidate you will manage projects through a team of internal and external consultants and contracted builders.  As such, you will have over 3 years’ practical experience of project management and ideally be Prince2 qualified.

Evidence of successful working with, supporting and influencing clients and stakeholders is essential.

About us

Over the past few years, Waltham Forest has changed drastically. Good schools, great parks, excellent culture facilities, mass regeneration and budding community entrepreneurship are making it a place that people want to call home.

Waltham Forest as a council has also changed, and despite the challenges of austerity, the organisation has seen its highest ever levels of resident satisfaction. As funding reductions continue, Waltham Forest is creating a council for the future.

Waltham Forest Council is an employer of choice. We offer a huge range of benefits to make working with us more than worthwhile. These include flexible working options, plus learning and development opportunities which will offer the chance to progress your career further.
