About the Role

Our Estates Team is part of the wider Property Service within the Orbis partnership, which encompasses Surrey County Council, East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council. The purpose of this partnership is to deliver greater value for our councils, residents and customers by increasing efficiencies and exploiting the benefits of sharing people, resources and technology.

As a senior leader within our Property Service, you will provide direction to the Estates function and drive both strategic outcomes and day-to-day operational estate management practice.  You will lead an estates function both based in Lewes for East Sussex County Council and Kingston for Surrey County Council driving a professional services team.  You will be predominately based in Kingston with an expectation that you will work with your team in Lewes regularly. Therefore, ability to travel is essential.

Surrey County Council has a vast and varied portfolio of holdings including operational buildings such as fire stations, care homes, schools and commercial property, plus residential properties and extensive rural and land holdings.  This is complimented by East Sussex portfolio of property for which the team are commissioned to manage Estates cases based upon their vast skills and knowledge.

We can give you a large amount of varied, and exciting experience through the work within the Estates team and you will be ready for a challenge, perhaps already coming from a public sector property background.  What you will have already is experience of managing a team, a high level of financial management skill and also cross-cutting Estates experience with in particular a landlord and tenant focus.

Working in partnership with teams and departments across the council you will provide high quality professional estates advice often taking a pragmatic approach to problem solving.  We have busy, high-profile, technically qualified estate service and we need someone of high calibre to develop the team and shape our Orbis future.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable in leading by example and wants to work in a highly effective organisation focused on delivering value to our customers and residents.

To be shortlisted for interview candidates must be a fully qualified Charter Surveyor and a member of appropriate professional body.  You will also have significant years post-qualification experience within an Estates or Asset backdrop.  You will have substantial team management experience in a property context plus you will have demonstrable experience of financial and budgetary management.
