Your new role

The post holder will assist the Senior Portfolio Surveyor (Commercial Property), in effectively and efficiently managing the Council’s Commercial property portfolio.

  • Assist in providing an efficient and responsive property management service, dealing with all landlord and tenant matters and undertaking the valuation, acquisition and disposal of properties, as required to meet the Council’s needs in the management of its estate.

  • Carry out and assist in the property management of land and property (including multi-let buildings and service charges), together with the granting of leases, licences, easements, wayleaves and the disposal of surplus property.

  • Provide property advice and guidance to internal and external service users ensuring the most effective and economic outcome.

  • Negotiate on behalf of the Council on a range of property matters liaising with landlords, tenants, community organisations, central government departments, other clients and service partners.

  • Provide support in asset management planning, asset reviews and development and management of property databases & systems.

  • Contribute to and support project boards and working groups providing advice and guidance on the best use of the Council’s assets.

  • Undertake and assume responsibility for own caseload as allocated and supervised by the Senior Portfolio Surveyors; carry out all work allocated to appropriate professional and technical standards ensuring service provision meets clear requirements and expected standards within area of responsibility; complete work within adopted timescales/performance standards, reporting the reason(s) for potential or actual slippage.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Degree in Estate Management (or equivalent) and relevant experience in valuation and property management
  • Understanding and relevant practical experience of the principles of Valuation and Estate Management
  • Understanding and practical application of Landlord and Tenant and other property related legislation
  • Ability to work on a number of simultaneous projects whilst achieving given targets and deadlines
  • Customer focused, working closely with service directorates to achieve agreed outcomes
