Job Details

Currie & Brown is currently looking for a construction health and safety professional to undertake the role of principal designer/CDM2015 independent client advisor within our project team based in our client's PMO offices. The successful candidate will ensure project compliance with health and safety legislation, capturing and sharing knowledge across projects, enhancing our culture of innovation and reinforcing our recognised reputation as preferred service provider.

Responsibilities for the successful candidate will include:

  • Ensuring compliance with the responsibilities of the principal designer, informing and assisting our client in discharging their duties at each stage of the process under the CDM 2015 Regulations, including ensuring suitable management arrangements are in place throughout the project
  • Establishing a record of principles and decisions taken in relation to health and safety from design inception, then monitoring and reporting to completion
  • Receiving strategic briefs, advising on the development of the project brief, then ensuring appropriate notification to HSE of project particulars by relevant project team members
  • Visiting sites and carrying out an initial appraisal to establish existing hazards and site restrictions
  • Advising and assisting our client in the appointment of designers and contractors, reviewing H&S implications of procurement methods in respect of CDM 2015 Regulations
  • Carrying out design reviews with team members and co-ordinating health and safety matters
  • Ensuring that designers have established safe methods for construction of unusual or complex designs and making this available as part of the pre-construction information
  • Representing the company in a professional and diligent manner with our client and their appointed designers and contractors, to form strong working relationships

Requirements:

  • Recognised professional qualification in construction health and safety, eg NEBOSH diploma, NEBOSH Construction Certificate, etc
  • Certified or Incorporated Member of the Association for Project Safety (CMaPS/IMaPS)
  • Substantial experience delivering CDM co-ordinator/principal designer services (as defined in CDM 2015 Regulations) to public-sector clients
  • Current UK or EU passport
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Own vehicle and clean driving licence
  • Ability to travel to client offices and sites in Bristol, Essex and London for meetings (expenses paid)
  • Ability to submit to the client's security clearance requirements
  • Good technical writing and communication skills and client-facing experience
  • Be well-organised, diligent, proactive, assertive, well-disciplined and commercially astute
  • A team player with a 'can-do' attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful and flexible
