An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Building Surveyor to join M&Co.  This role will be based at our Estates office in Hitchin, England and will require frequent travel as it is a mobile role.

The Role

  • Support the Head of Retail Property Services in managing the process for terminal and interim schedules of dilapidations
  • Support the Head of Retail Property Services with pre-acquisition surveys of new sites  
  • Support The Head Of Retail Property Services with the preparation of project documents and specifications, manage the tender process ensuring budgets are met and best value achieved
  • Assist with the review and monitoring of any external consultant reports
  • Advise and act as necessary on party wall notices
  • Prepare planning applications and building warrants/regulation applications for projects
  • Assist with energy management of the property portfolio
  • Adhere to Health and Safety requirements and highlight any potentially costly, hazardous or otherwise unsatisfactory building related issues
  • Ensure works are completed to a high quality and that all equipment and services meet the necessary standards and performance
  • Take turn with on call maintenance phone dealing with emergencies quickly and efficiently minimising store closures
  • Assist with managing relationships with suppliers and contractors, finding and vetting contractors ensuring they are capable of meeting service level agreements
  • Advise on listed building status and requirements to meet any onerous conditions
  • Carry out building surveys of property portfolio preparing schedules and rectifying issues as required.
  • Identify and analyse building defects preparing proposals for cost effective solutions
  • Manage in house maintenance operative

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a multi-site retail or a commercial building surveying role
  • Good project management experience preferably on a retail portfolio
  • A good understanding and knowledge of legal requirements relating to retail and other commercial leases
  • Experience of carrying out and completing end of lease dilapidation negotiations on behalf of a tenant
  • Knowledge and experience of health and safety laws especially Fire Safety and CDM
  • IT skills in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
  • NEBOSH H&S qualification
  • Full driving license
