Apprentice Quantity Surveyor  

Emico is a highly technically skilled infrastructure engineering company with a significant client base in the Rail industry. We provide a full design and build capability across the Mechanical and Electrical engineering spectrum. Based in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire and various sites across London, we are looking for an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor to join the team on a full-time, permanent basis.

An Apprentice will receive a combination of classroom education and paid on-the-job experience. Apprentices will be enrolled in an apprenticeship program to learn the tools and skills necessary to become certificated and graded in their appointed discipline. It is intended that the Apprentice Surveyor shall be exposed to all surveying activities from contract inception to completion. The Apprentice Surveyor will also participate in a rotational programme to gain exposure to other departments and aspects of the business.

This is a list of the main duties of the role and should not be considered an exhaustive list of duties:

  • Work as per the guidelines and instructions of the Senior Quantity Surveyor and deliver to the best of your abilities. Expectation that all work carried out is to a high quality and standard;
  • Gain exposure to the different departments in Emico’s business and familiarise yourself with each team member’s responsibility in the respective teams;      
  • Carry out administrative duties e.g. Preparing material requests, updating project files and registers and ensure that documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Gain exposure to the technical elements of the project and understand what Emico do and what services we offer;
  • Learn professional behaviour and mannerisms from management and colleagues;
  • Attend internal meetings as and when required;
  • Adhere to existing working practices, methods, procedures, undertake relevant training and development activities and respond positively to new and alternative systems;
  • Ask questions, learn and familiarise yourself with the role and review progress against Emico Apprentice programme;
  • Once progress has been made, take specific responsibilities from Project QS;
  • Complete all college assessments as directed, ensure excellent attendance and complete all course work.

    Successful candidates will be required to:

  • To participate in the rotation programme as set out by Emico and learn from Colleagues, Mentors and Managers;
  • Work as per the guidelines and instructions from the Senior Manager of each department and deliver to the best of your abilities;
  • Ensure all work carried out is of a high quality and standard
  • Be ambassadors of our company Values i.e. Respect, Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence.

    Candidates must be able to demonstrate great team working and communication skills, with a desire and tenacity to complete tasks within tight timescales.

    Candidates must have 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English or a Level 2 Apprenticeship in a Construction or Property related discipline.
