Job Description

With expected rail works in the North West, we are looking to expand our commercial offering in the region both for external and internal clients. To support this we are seeking an experienced professional to initially deliver commissions in the region and to grow a team over the next 2 years. We see the role transitioning over that timescale from fee earning into a management role once the growth has taken hold so this is an exciting opportunity within Mott MacDonald and our transportation portfolio.

As a commercial director you will:

  • Undertake the role of Project Director (Rail and Highways) for the delivery of projects to meet defined customer objectives
  • Assist the national Transportation Director (APD) and key account managers in business management, repeat sales and the running of a team and subsequent achievement of project and business goals.
  • Manage the day to day requirements of the team ensuring that support is available and that business protocols and client relationships are being upheld and developed.

You will be responsible for:

  • Key project and team management and communication
  • Achieving the delivery of projects within budget
  • Delivery of projects in line with the customer objectives and contracted scope of works
  • Working with the portfolio director of transport and business development team to ensure that estimating opportunities are secured
  • Recruitment and expansion of the rail and highways team within the North West

Duties will include:

  • Assisting in winning work and the utilisation of existing staff
  • Assisting in securing new and repeat business in line with portfolio budgets
  • Business development and proposal writing
  • Carrying out internal governance and quality assurance of all estimating commissions
  • Recruitment of future staff to include interviewing and liaising with aligned HR members to arrange contracts etc.
  • Implementing the management of a Commercial services team
  • Taking part in contract reviews relating to the contract with the customer
  • Assisting in the development of programmes for the delivery of our services
  • Assisting with the analysis of business cases, preparing reports at all stages of budget setting
  • Administering and carrying out aligned training necessary to maintain staff technical excellence

Candidate Specification

We welcome applications from candidates with the following:

  • Degree qualified in Engineering or Quantity Surveying or other relevant degree
  • Significant amount of experience on multi £bn infrastructure projects aligned to Rail, Rail systems, Heavy Civils and Structures in the region
  • ACostE/MRICS/MCIOB qualified
  • Quantifiable bid management experience
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability and desire to grow and manage a team
  • Excellent report and proposal writing skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated
  • Effective time management
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to work
  • Flexibility in working location and travel
  • Customer focused
