In a city, with a rich history of a thousand years…

Historic Coventry Trust

Assistant Director

The City of Coventry is at the heart of England, and has a surprising amount of heritage buildings reflecting its 1,000 years of history.  Coventry has ambitious plans for the future having secured the title of UK City of Culture in 2021.  This provides an unprecedented opportunity to restore and showcase the City’s heritage on a national stage.

Historic Coventry Trust has agreed the transfer of a portfolio of historic properties from Coventry City Council dating from the early 1300s to the mid-1800s. Comprising 22 buildings and 4 small sites, this is the largest transfer of heritage assets from a council to a charity in the UK and a potential model for future heritage regeneration on social enterprise principles.  The portfolio is varied, from Medieval Monasteries and timber framed houses to Victorian chapels and shops. The aim of the Trust is to restore the buildings for future generations, promoting education and boosting the visitor economy.

To take forward its plans, Historic Coventry Trust is now seeking an Assistant Director to work with the Director to deliver the regeneration projects from conception to completion including grant applications.  The role is wide ranging including managing other staff, running volunteer activity and educational programmes and includes the setting up of a new visitor attraction.  Longer term the Assistant Director is intended to become the overall General Manager of the Trust following completion of the programme of restoration works.  Beneficial skills include a heritage background and project and property management experience.  Overall the successful candidate will have good communication and organisational skills and be able to represent the Trust in liaising with its many partners.

This is an extremely exciting time to work at Historic Coventry Trust, where your contribution will truly leave a lasting legacy.  If you have the skills and enthusiasm for this key leadership role, then we look forward to receiving your application.

Historic Coventry Trust is supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic England and the Architectural Heritage Fund
