The London Borough of Waltham Forest is committed to Creating Futures, our new Corporate Strategy. We are fiercely ambitious and strive continuously to make sure each and every one of our residents enjoys a quality life in London.

Effective Property and Asset Management is a key to the success of us achieving our corporate strategy. We have restructured our service, so it is positioned for the future and works collaboratively with all stakeholders, to driving change and making service improvements.

Now we are recruiting forward-thinking and innovative professionals who’ll place Property and Asset Management at the heart of the council’s broader organisational change agenda.

An integral role that we’re looking to appoint to is Area Estates Manager.  In this key position, you will be responsible for the management of the council’s non-residential properties. This will include lease renewals, rent reviews, rent collection and debt recovery, together with the annual programme of asset valuations.

You’ll quickly gain an understanding of all matters affecting property within a designated area of the borough. You will then promote a good understanding with relevant stakeholders, enabling the prioritisation of work according to council priorities and needs.

Key to your success will be your ability to develop effective estates management plans which meet strategic business goals, ensure compliance and support the development and delivery of continuous improvements in all aspects of the service. You’ll work collaboratively in achieving your objectives and establish valued working relationships with different stakeholders, including members, residents and services, within your designated area of the borough.

About you

As a chartered surveyor, educated to degree standard or equivalent, you will be experienced in carrying out valuations, including statutory valuations and undertaking acquisitions. This will include the development of appraisals techniques.

You’ll need experience of managing a mixed and varied case load of conflicting priorities, responding effectively to the needs of all customers.

Previous management experience would be helpful, however we are more than happy to consider those seeking to step up into a management role. The important thing is your ability to lead, motivate and develop those around you.
