The opportunity:

Are you an experienced Project Surveyor? Come and join our Facilities Management team and help make a difference to the lives of our West Sussex residents. You will deliver a customer focused technical surveying project management service, providing technical expertise and guidance on project related issues. You will manage school building related projects in the region of £7 million (Ave) per annum working closely with Consultants, Contractors and Education based clients ensuring efficient project planning and delivery.

You will be responsible for project managing a portfolio of school building related projects in the region of £7 million that deliver building maintenance improvements in support of School Property Development Plans The role will manage the delivery of schemes ensuring that projects are delivered to specified cost, quality, time and performance targets. Projects will need to comply with internal and external initiatives/policies and strategies, examples of which include sustainability objectives, the WSCC Construction Guide and Building Control Directives.

You will build and develop effective working relationships with a range of subject matter Experts, Clients, Senior Managers and key project contacts (i.e. Project Board), in relation to managing project compliance. You will also undertake negotiations in relation to project targets, performance levels, specification and timescales. You will significantly contribute to the successful delivery of projects and Service premises related outcomes.

What you need to succeed:

  • Degree, or equivalent qualification in a Building Surveying or related construction discipline
  • Relevant advanced theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge associated with operating a demanding project surveying management service, including corporate project management frameworks and procedures
  • Detailed knowledge of all stages of project management to effectively manage the project process
  • Sound and accurate IT knowledge e.g. Microsoft Project in order to accurately analyse information/data
  • Political awareness when working with members/senior management
  • A detailed understanding of building/development projects
  • Significant experience in relevant subject area such as surveying or construction related project management, building/development related projects.
