PO6 £48,252 - £49,203 pa (Effective from 1st April 2019)

Housing is a top priority for Hackney. Ensuring that we deliver a high quality, customer focussed repairs service across our 30,000 homes is paramount. We have recently remodelled our repairs service to match our aspirations and are now looking for senior managers who can take us on the next stage of our improvement journey.

We are now looking for four Area Surveying Managers who will be responsible for managing repairs and communal works across a portfolio of our tenant and leaseholder homes. Each will provide leadership and direction to a small team of technical and communal repairs staff and provide a strong focus on ensuring that our work consistently meets time, quality and costs standards.

The role will include responsibility for budget planning and resource allocation and demand a high level of building surveying expertise. You will also be expected to champion the implementation of new ITC solutions, build a strong performance management culture within your team, and provide effective solutions for more complex technical problems.

The service innovations we are putting in place will encourage joined up working. We need people who can build effective working relationships across the Council, keen to create partnerships with other service areas and agencies, working collaboratively to improve efficiency and performance.

We need people with excellent communications skills who are passionate about resident engagement. You must appreciate the importance of customer focus, striving to get the very best for our residents in an increasingly challenging financial climate. Using your ability to motivate multi-disciplinary teams, you will inspire excellence from all involved and generate a culture passionate about good practice and innovation.

To thrive in this role, you will have substantial experience of driving effective service improvement, including using ICT solutions to overcome complex issues. You will need substantial experience of working in building contract management and improving the delivery of a responsive repairs service. Ideally, you will also have solid experience of managing Section 20 consultations and providing high level advice on disrepair cases.

You will need an agile leadership style to meet the challenges and opportunities involved, working within the context of our wider strategic objectives. We need someone with a RICS accredited degree in building surveying or related discipline and be a member of either RICS or CIOB.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work.  We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best.  We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.
