Job Details

Currie & Brown is currently looking for a director for our Birmingham office. The director will have full responsibility for directing financial, operational, client and people-related objectives across all service streams in their workstream, and in collaboration with the other directors across the region. This encompasses leading, managing and monitoring the delivery of the business plan and ensuring project delivery on time, cost and quality.

 

Responsibilities for the successful candidate(s) will include:

  • Undertaking full P&L responsibility within the given workstream, requiring the need to monitor and control financial performance
  • Initiating and ensuring implementation of corrective action where performance deviates from plan
  • Directing all staff within the scope of line management on timely billings, cash collection to improve lock up, and taking action to ensure that long-term debts are recovered
  • Handling financial management of all assigned projects, ensuring budgetary compliance, management of debt and WIP
  • Undertaking contract administration and task scheduling to ensure projects are delivered on time, cost and quality
  • Supporting the senior director in the annual budgeting process for the sector and providing financial forecasts on a monthly basis
  • Working in a collaborative way with other directors to share best practice, service delivery, knowledge and resources
  • Developing and improving the relationships across the region and the wider group to ensure the mutually beneficial crossflow of business, adherence to standards and sharing of knowledge/best practice to facilitate a seamless service to clients
  • Working in a collaborative and supportive manner with a centralised support services function, understanding the need for sharing support services resource across the wider business
  • Managing internal control and procedural processes, recommending improvements and corrective action where appropriate
  • Undertaking responsibility for personal compliance, and compliance in their scope of line management, with company policy and procedure
  • Ensuring regular audits and peer reviews are undertaken
  • Setting a clear leadership role in ensuring compliance with all professional indemnity insurance requirements and maintaining a risk register
  • Undertaking responsibility for compliance with corporate governance standards in all areas of project delivery, specifically responsibility for all H&S on projects, with respect of H&S training, compliance and culture
  • Ensuring monthly reporting and MIS up to date, including agreed fees and forecast costs
  • Monitoring sub-contractors' performance to ensure standard and technical specifications are achieved and aligned with contractual agreements, identifying remedial actions and process changes
  • Developing a resource strategy for all direct projects, identifying a pipeline of talent for projected work, and a training and development strategy to maximise the capability of current staff
  • Undertaking responsibility for identifying recruitment needs, and methods of recruitment to identify the key required skill sets, working with HR to proactively plan resourcing and avoid agency expenditure
  • Assisting the senior director with defining KPIs for senior staff in the sector to provide clarity on performance expectations and objectives
  • Acting as mentor/coach to selected staff
  • Taking ownership for embedding a culture whereby one-to-ones, development reviews and individual staff development becomes the 'norm'
  • Working with HR to develop and promote clearly defined career pathways
  • Demonstrating company values in all dealings, internally and externally, championing business priorities above local ones
  • Recognising and celebrating great performance, while acting robustly and consistently on poor performance
  • Undertaking responsibility for identifying business expansion opportunities ensuring that they meet the required financial targets and returns
  • Working with the other directors in the region to establish a marketing plan which complements the business strategy, and maximises sector growth where applicable
  • Undertaking responsibility for converting work-winning opportunities within the office into successful and profitable contracts
  • Creating a bid strategy and working with key resources to identify, capture and develop win themes
  • Contributing proactively to sharing of clients ensuring service delivery is undertaken by the individuals most practically equipped to service the client
  • Acting as senior account director for selected key client accounts
  • Raising the profile of Currie & Brown within the region, in a way that aligns to the growth strategy of the organisation and promotes new business opportunities
  • Creating a cross-selling culture, ensuring all staff understand the full portfolio of our business offering and are reviewed against their cross-selling delivery

 

Requirements:

  • Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
  • Experience in the private sector
  • Ability to lead through large change projects in a way which champions best practice and embraces the company values
  • Knowledge of current trends, industry and technology
  • Desire to request and welcome personal feedback, demonstrating continued learning and self-awareness
  • Ability to adopt a personal leadership brand, based on integrity, transparency and trust
  • Strong decision-making skills based on input and viewpoints from a range of stakeholders
  • Clear vision and mission with ability to create a culture based on transparency, openness and trust
  • An established network of existing client and key regional consultants contacts that will assist in delivering the marketing plan
  • Good technical writing, client-facing and communication skills
  • Well-organised, diligent, proactive, assertive, well-disciplined and commercially astute
  • A team player with a 'can-do' attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful and flexible
