Senior Building Surveyor, Coleg Gwent, Estate Management, Newport/Monmouthshire, South Wales, Permanent.

Your new organisation
Your new organisation is one of the largest local college providers in the South Wales area with over 23,000 students and hundreds of courses. Your new team are the award winning Coleg Gwent Estates and Facilities team, based within the Usk Campus in Monmouthshire.

The multidisciplinary team consists of Building Surveyors, Mechanical and Electrical specialists and Project Managers who deliver the reactive and planned maintenance programme across the five campuses in Ebbw Vale, Newport, Crosskeys, Pontypool and Usk. Coleg Gwent offers a variety of different courses and therefore the on-site facilities you will be exposed to will be varied and interesting with no two days being the same.

The property portfolio consists of state of the art equestrian centres, medical laboratories, lecture theatres, beauty salons and sports facilities to name a few.

Your new role
As the Senor Building Surveyor within the Estates and Facilities team, you will work mainly within the reactive and planned maintenance programme with the addition of minor to major capital refurbishment projects from the value of £3.5m through to £5.5m with some exciting larger developments in the pipeline. Duties will include adaptations, maintenance projects and refurbishments.

You will undertake building inspections and condition surveys and prepare CAD working drawings, specifications and schedules of work for a wide range of maintenance and building projects.

You will also undertake planned property maintenance surveys of the Estate and prepare costed 10-year maintenance programmes.

You will advise on the selection of suitable contractors for individual projects and assess their competency to carry out the work. Be held responsible for the on-site supervision of building works and issue of instructions, whilst ensuring that the work meets current building regulations and the standard and quality required by the college.

Carry out risk assessments to ensure that H&S (Health and Safety) legislation, including compliance with CDM regulations is adhered to.

Act as contract administrator for JCT forms of contract - you will prepare, negotiate and certify contract documents and stage payments.

Assist with the engagement of consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to ensure that building and facilities works are project managed in an efficient and effective manner. Manage effective systems and frameworks to ensure that building management services are adequately provided and documented.

To assist with the development of the Estates Strategy and Space Utilisation Programme.

What you'll need to succeed
You will need experience of working as a Building Surveyor with a variety of buildings/property types.

You will hold a professional accreditation (MRICS/MCIOB) with evidence of undertaking CPD (continuous professional development).

Experience undertaking the duties mentioned in the previous section as well as the ability to use AutoCAD software and/or REVIT and Microsoft Office package.

Strong administration and organisational skills, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Full driving license
