To help deliver this ambition the Estates team need to recruit an Assistant Director – Estates, Maintenance, Compliance & Projects. 

Your New Role 
The purpose of the role is to support the Director of Estates and Commercial Services in the strategic leadership and effective management of the Estates Department and to lead the maintenance and compliance teams in the delivery of the maintenance, statutory compliance functions and delivery of capital projects.

In addition to this, you will ensure the team maintains its focus on delivering key University objectives and adopts a proactive, customer focused approach in the delivery of services which support a high-quality environment for students, staff and other stakeholders.

A key requirement will be to lead and develop the in-house team of approximately 30 staff, ensuring the University delivers the very best service levels and a strong focus on cultural and behavioural change.

The role holder will be required to travel between university sites (Stafford, Lichfield and Shrewsbury) on occasions, however the position will predominantly be based at the Stoke campus.

Experience Required 
In order to be considered for the position, you must have extensive experience in a strategic leadership Estates & Facilities role (ideally working within Higher Education), with a proven track record of managing high value budgets. Candidates must be educated to degree level or equivalent in a Construction & Property related disciple e.g. Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, Engineering. A relevant professional qualification is also essential to the post (e.g. MRICS, MRIBA, MCIOB, MCIBSE) You will also have extensive practical experience and relevant technical knowledge including the management of maintenance and statutory compliance operations using contractors and directly 

About You 
The successful candidate must have excellent communication and leadership skills and a strong working knowledge of the legal compliance framework for facilities including Health & Safety legislation. You will possess excellent organisational skills with experience of managing multiple activities with competing deadlines and challenging budgets and can manage performance at individual and operational level e.g. developing, managing and reporting on service KPI’s. Finally, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the University’s strategic plan and a commitment to the University values.
