Structural CAD / Revit Technician
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious BIM Technician to join WYG’s extremely successful and versatile Engineering team. Based in our Bristol office, this is an opportunity to become part of the established and growing Structural Engineering team working on varied, interesting and sometimes different commissions.
Your role
Reporting to BIM team leader, your role will require you to produce building information modelling (BIM) deliverables across a wide range of projects throughout the Southern region and further afield as part of national delivery teams. Working in both a 2D and 3D environment, you will be supporting an experienced and able team of Structural Engineers to deliver a wide range of Engineering projects across various sectors. Although not immediately you will be expected to supervise apprentices when appointed, while they are learning.
You will be involved with both new build and refurbishment projects working from the early planning stages right through to the end of the delivery phase. Our Structural Engineering team deliver projects using the latest design software and we integrate this with Revit as much as possible. As well as preparation of drawings we may require you to complete reinforcement detailing. Due to the nature of our work in the defence and government sectors, you will be required to hold, or achieve, a level of security clearance which the company will facilitate.
About you
Prior experience and knowledge of Building Structures, Structural Engineering and BIM modelling is essential for this role including:
- PAS 1192-2,4,5 & 6 & BS1192:2007 knowledge is essential
- Use of 3D Draughting software using AutoCAD and / or Revit software (training will be provided if necessary)
- BIM Coordination and Validation
- Experience of Project Extranets and document control procedures
- Project experience as a Technician within an Engineering practice/environment
- Detailing building structures including differing types of foundation solutions, masonry construction, structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, timber and precast concrete general arrangements
- Ability to produce accurate and well-presented CAD documents in accordance with
briefings from engineering staff - To understand and create structural details from general arrangement plans
- Knowledge of the Building Regulations and associated design codes (i.e. NHBC standards)
- Liaison with engineers, architects, design team, and contractors
The desired skills for this position are:
- BTEC, HNC, HND/BEng, BSc or similar level qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience within a consultancy practice
- Membership of or working towards membership of either the institution of Civil or Structural Engineers
- Knowledge of Eurocodes
- Ability to obtain a minimum of ‘DV’ security clearance
- Experience of working on military projects
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- A practical approach to time-management and the ability to switch between jobs at short notice
- Being able to deliver multiple projects at the same time
- BIM Execution Plan and BIM Standards Creation
- Familiarity with 3D Clash detection using Navisworks
- Experience working on Reinforced Concrete and / or Structural Steel projects
- The ability to work independently
- The willingness and flexibility to be able to work outside your knowledge and comfort zone
- A strong commitment to knowledge acquisition and CPD
- Full UK driving licence
