The role

Due to recent internal movement and promotion we have opportunities available for Estates Surveyors based in our Lincoln and Solihull Office, please note that within the next 12 months the Solihull office will change location to Birmingham city centre. 

As an Estates Surveyor you will be an integral part of the Estates Service working directly with our Project Support Officers, Assistant Estates Surveyors and Senior Estates Surveyors.  You will hold a RICS qualification, and have relevant land and property experience.  Whilst working in this role you will be involved in a wide variety of surveying work: this will keep your days varied and interesting whilst building your knowledge and experience.  In your role as an Estates Surveyor, there will be opportunities for you to get involved in some large construction projects where you will be given the opportunity to use your influencing skills and depending on skill and experience you could develop yourself further and even manage them.  You will be involved in wide range of work including our national flood risk programme, looking after various operational projects, manage a diverse land portfolio and be involved in the acquisition and compensation programme for major capital works.  Working as an Estates Surveyor in the Environment Agency will mean that the environment will be at the heart of everything you do: your work will ensure that we maximise our financial profits and drive forward positive environmental outcomes for our local communities.

You will be have the opportunity to mentor other team members, particularly those progressing towards full RICS membership.

You’ll be expected to visit remote field sites around your work area, so you’ll need a willingness to travel and a full UK driving licence, due to the nature of this work a lease car is provided with this role.

About you
You will hold an appropriate RICS qualification (AssocRICS, MRICS or FRICS), and have relevant land and property experience with a proven track record of delivering results in an operational environment.  Your experience will include managing a diverse land and property portfolio, including property management, valuation and dealing with landlord and tenant issues to provide sustainable use and deliver best practice.  You’ll also have a good understanding of planning, property and compensation legislation and of compulsory purchase procedures.  You’ll be able to provide advice on land and compensation matters to minimise project risk and compensation liabilities.  As a confident negotiator, you will be able to secure access and appropriate interests, along with settling compensation claims.  With an up-to-date knowledge of current legislation and best practice, you’re able to support other members of your team and provide advice on surveying matters.  You’re a credible and enthusiastic communicator with good networking skills, building strong networks and influencing a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders for the effective resolution of issues.  You will be adept at balancing and prioritising a varied workload ensuring that tasks are achieved.
