Manager for Major Capital Projects (Environment)

Bedford Borough Council is in the process of initiating a number of major projects (namely rationalisation/modernisation of the depots within the Environment Directorate and the building of Wixams railway station.

We require an experienced project manager who will ensure that these important projects are delivered on budget, on time, whilst also ensuring all statutory obligations are met within the scope of the scheme.

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of business case/design/construction/engineering elements of the project, with an overall value of circa £30M.

We require an experienced professional project manager to oversee the delivery of these exciting projects, which will include the overall responsibility for the project plan, as well as the day to day supervision of detailed design work, relevant consultation, procurement, planning applications and contractors. This person will be expected to maintain the project plan, produce written project progress reports, undertake presentations to stakeholders and negotiate with contractors and other relevant staff, in order to deliver high quality and sustainable depot provision, to meet the different service needs, across the Environment Directorate.

You should be qualified to degree level and have a background in managing and delivering multiple large projects, in either a construction or civil engineering setting. It would be desirable that you have a good knowledge, and preferably experience, of the requirements associated with depot facilities used for Waste Collection and Disposal, Highways and Transportation Services and/or the rail industry.
