Job Details
To provide professional Building Surveying services ensuring that the council's public buildings, residential garages, including leisure, commercial, community and park buildings etc are compliant, and all assets are repaired and maintained in a good state of repair and are fit for purpose.
Key tasks, duties and accountabilities of the post
Corporate and Operational
- Under the direction from the Principal Building Surveyor assume day to day management responsibility and adopt and maintain best practice on schemes through to completion
- Identify building defects and provide recommendations for repair, preparing estimates as required.
- Carry out building / stock condition and dilapidation surveys preparing reports on findings.
- Attend and Chair meetings where necessary and liaise with the client, contractors, consultants, design/project team, council officers and external organisations. This shall also include taking the Principal designer and lead designer role (CDM) and co-ordinating the design development between the design consultants.
- Ensure tendering and contract compliance through the proper preparation of estimates, specifications, drawings, agreements and coordination through the design process and construction phases of the project
- Use of quality Control techniques, procedures and document management systems.
- Ensure proper and efficient use of Computer Aided Design (Autocad), National Building Specification and technical information for inclusion into the tender and contract documentation.
- Making use of the Division's IT systems to ensure the efficient delivery of the service.
- Undertaking the project management and delivery of simple to moderately complex projects/schemes.
- Ensure the principals of sustainability and whole life costing are applied to all project
Management
- The post holder will be responsible for managing their own time to meet the works programme and Senior officers instructions
- Integrate appropriate quality control techniques, procedures and document management.
- Make best use of IT systems to ensure efficient delivery including use of Computer Aided Design (autocad) National Building Specification (NBS) and technical information solutions
