About the role

Join Stockport Council at this exciting time to become part of a new Estate and Asset Management Team. We are looking for excellent team players and creative thinkers to drive the development of the new Estates Services team.

The Council has a large, visionary programme of capital developments across the borough as part of a programme of regeneration, and is leading the way in public sector innovation in advanced Estate and Asset Management models. This is a great opportunity to work with an exciting and diverse portfolio.

You will lead on managing the Council’s estate and contribute to setting the strategic direction of the portfolio, maximising income generated and providing professional expertise to a range of colleagues and interested parties. There are roles available in all aspects of Estate Management including Landlord & Tenant, valuation, CPO; and acquisition/disposal.

It is anticipated that one of the positions on offer will be the lead role in the management of claims submitted to the authority as a consequence of this regeneration programme. The postholder will be responsible for leading on the management of claims submitted to the Council as a consequence of this programme. The projects will require detailed knowledge and experience of Compulsory Purchase law and compensation to acquire real estate interests, and negotiate compensation claims from residential and commercial occupiers and owners. One area of work which we are seeking particular expertise relates to Part 1 claims Land Compensation Act 1973. Regard will be had to candidates who can demonstrate a track record in the management of significant projects and consultants in this particular area of work.

The role:

  • Effectively managing the Council estate, including all activities relating to the property lifecycle
  • Managing the whole CPO process on behalf of the Council (where applicable)
  • Providing professional, property related advice
  • Mentoring and training junior surveyors

Qualifications/skills:

  • RICS membership for a minimum of three years
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of real estate law and legislation, including CPO
  • Commercially aware
  • Ability to negotiate and influence, with effective interpersonal skills

Desired:

  • RICS Registered Valuer status
  • Experience in training or mentoring graduates on the APC pathway
  • Experience of regeneration and redevelopment schemes
  • Experience of managing a mixed portfolio of assets
  • Strong partnership skills and able to develop strong networks in order to ensure timely project delivery
