Building Surveyor Opportunities in New Zealand

Building Surveyor Skill Shortages

New Zealand has a thriving building and construction industry, with building consents reaching an all time high. This has created a nation-wide shortage of skilled and experienced building surveyors. As a result, building surveyor appears on Immigration New Zealand’s immediate skill shortage list.

In New Zealand, building surveyors carry out the work of a building control officer, or a building inspector to ensure building laws and regulations are adhered to. New Zealand building surveyors contribute to the safety and amenity of the built environment by managing the building quality.

Building Officials Institute of New Zealand

The Building Officials Institute of New Zealand is a not-for-profit membership organisation representing over 1200 building surveyors in New Zealand.

Our mission is to improve the quality and performance of New Zealand’s built environment. Through our recruitment arm, our HR Division looks to support the performance of New Zealand’s built environment by assisting with the recruitment of skilled and qualified building surveyors into a workforce experiencing current skill shortages.  New Zealand is actively encouraging skilled building surveyors from overseas to work in New Zealand, and we want to support this.

We’re recruiting overseas building surveyors

We are recruiting on behalf of New Zealand’s Building Control Authorities, and are looking for professional, competent individuals who have experience working as a building surveyor and are looking to move to New Zealand. There are opportunities all over New Zealand, and we would work with you to assess your current competencies, skill sets and preferences in terms of location to make applications for roles on your behalf.
