Summary

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is a bold and innovative organisation that has big ambitions.

We are committed to maintaining current very high levels of resident satisfaction, making it a great place to live and work, but to continue to develop and grow the Council we need to focus on the opportunities that may exist to become more commercial in our approach.  To do this we want people who work for us to bring new creative ideas, innovation and develop new key income streams, along with a good commercial acumen, to deliver our plans for growth and development - for the citizens of the Borough and for our workforce.

We are looking for a dynamic manager with the ability to lead the Building Control team.  You must of course possess strong technical expertise – understanding statutory provisions and corporate policy - but vitally you must also have the right motivation and the behaviours to develop business opportunities, implement changes to working practices and the ability to drive new innovative approaches.

You will have the opportunity to lead and shape our already high-performing team, to deliver an exceptional service at every level.

You must also have a good and proven commercial outlook and understand the financial and marketing aspects of the Building Control function. You must be able to lead, motivate and manage staff to sustain and improve our service and seek opportunities to increase our market share and deliver new services to our customers. You will need to have excellent customer service skills and Project Management skills. As a member of the Planning and Infrastructure Service Management team you will have the opportunity to influence service delivery outside your core responsibility

As one of the most financially resilient local authorities, we can also offer an exceptional future within this thriving borough. The council is a major land owner and has major growth ambitions which include large scale house building projects, a £300million leisure park redevelopment with a designer outlet centre and the 65 acre Basing View business park redevelopment. Working with us you can look forward to real quality of life, particularly since we offer a very flexible approach to working hours. There’s also an excellent range of benefits including:

  • Flexible and homeworking
  • Free parking (subject to a waiting list)
  • Salary sacrifice scheme for lease cars
  • Healthcare cash plan
  • Pension scheme
  • Generous leave entitlement and more

“The council signs up to the Disability Confident scheme (formerly known as the ‘Two Ticks’ scheme).  If you have declared a disability on the application form we can guarantee you an interview if you meet the essential criteria for the job.”
