Technical Officer required by a Housing Association based in Belfast to cover a period of maternity leave

Your new company
The services of Hays have been retained by our client, a Housing Association based in Belfast, to recruit a Technical Officer to cover a period of maternity leave for approximately 10-12 months.

With properties throughout Northern Ireland, our client offers affordable housing solutions to a range of service users, from general needs housing for families to sheltered housing for elderly residents.

Your new role
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will assist in the delivery of an efficient and effective response maintenance service to ensure that the Association's stock is maintained to the highest standards.

Your main duties will include:

Undertaking pre and post inspections of response maintenance works ensuring repairs are undertaken within the appropriate response time;
Liaising with contractors, ensuring issues with repairs are dealt with efficiently, as well as monitoring the overall performance of the contractor;
Carrying out pre and post inspections of void properties, ensuring void properties are returned ready to let at the earliest opportunity;
Administering property adaptations for tenants with disabilities, which will involve liaising with Occupational Therapists and external agencies as appropriate;
Undertaking health and safety inspections and carrying out risk assessments, ensuring contractors work is conducted and completed in accordance with current Health and Safety requirements;
Approving contractor's invoices for payment in line with the agreed schedule of rates, ensuring the Association receives value for money.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this position you must possess the following:

A professional or 3rd level qualification in a building related discipline and a minimum of 2 years' experience in the delivery of response or planned and cyclical maintenance programmes, OR;
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C and above or equivalent including English and Maths and a minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in the delivery of response, planned and cyclical maintenance programmes.

You should also possess:

An understanding of building regulations and health and safety legislation;
Communication skills both written and oral;
Organisation skills and ability to work to tight deadlines;
Ability to work as part of a team but take the lead and use own initiative when necessary;
IT skills - working knowledge of MS Office packages and administration skills;
A current driving licence and use of a car for business purposes.
