The School of Civil Engineering and Surveying (SCES) at the University of Portsmouth invites applications for the post of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Quantity Surveying to develop and contribute to the established professionally accredited programmes offered in the School.

SCES is seeking experienced, motivated individuals able to inspire undergraduate and postgraduate students in the delivery of Quantity Surveying.  This is an exciting opportunity to join SCES in a role that brings together professional practice/commercial management and academia.  Development of employable graduates is at the heart of our School and applicants would be encouraged to bring industry/professional practice in support of the delivery of their teaching to provide an outstanding experience for our students.  In addition to the ability to engage, motivate and support students, the role holder will develop research activities in line with the School, Faculty and University research themes.

Applicants should have an awareness of the current trends and developments in surveying both nationally and internationally.  The role requires excellent communication and management skills, a willingness to engage with a broad range of built environment themes and an enthusiasm for the development of innovative teaching and research initiatives.

The School has an excellent staff-student relationship and healthy undergraduate and postgraduate recruitment representing a broad range of professionally accredited courses, reinforced by excellent links with both commercial practice and professional institutions.  Full support will be provided for the successful applicant to develop their academic teaching skills through the Academic Professional Apprenticeship or APEX Programme and a post-graduate qualification, if required.

The University supports flexible working and the panel are willing to consider applications from candidates who wish to work part-time on a fractional basis.  Please state in your reasons for applying if you wish to apply for this role on a part-time basis, and the number of hours you would be interested in working if so.

We welcome applications from all qualified applicants, but applications are particularly encouraged from traditionally under-represented groups. The University of Portsmouth holds an Athena Swan bronze award and is committed to introduce organisational and cultural practices that promote gender equality and create a better working environment for all.   The School is willing to consider flexible arrangements for those with caring responsibilities.  The University of Portsmouth’s teaching has achieved the highest possible ‘Gold’ rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework in recognition of the excellence of its teaching.

Although the post is available as either a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Quantity Surveying, only one appointment will be made. Please note each post has a different person specification/ job description. You should also indicate in the ‘reasons for applying section’ whether you wish to be considered for the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position.
