We have a unique and exciting opportunity for a design and project focussed chartered building surveyor to join our specialist estates project team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).

ABOUT THE TEAM

The estates project team is a forward-thinking team working to demonstrate a private-practice and commercial approach within an NHS Trust. The team is developing software systems and processes, incorporating a full BIM approach for all projects. We have recently won the HefmA Project of the Year and have presented a talk to the RICS Digital built Environment Conference.

The Trust has a capital plan which includes significant new buildings as well as a number of building pathology, refurbishment and alteration projects to improve the existing clinical spaces. Reporting to a senior project manager, you will lead in the assessment of the clinical requirements, prepare architectural designs and specifications and organise the delivery of these projects in order to substantially improve the experience of patients and staff.

You will be part of a team that enables you to develop your skills and healthcare design and project management expertise in an exciting and progressive acute hospital.

We are looking for an individual with:

  • A proven track record of assessing problems
  • Experience designing and managing construction projects from inception to completion
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects for a range of stakeholders
  • The ability to manage a number of concurrent projects in various stages of development

ABOUT UHS

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is one of England's largest acute teaching trusts. We've recently been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey we ranked seventh in the country for staff engagement, and fourth best nationally for our proportion of staff saying that they would recommend the hospital as a place to work or to receive care

ABOUT SOUTHAMPTON

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and only an hour on the train from central London. The New Forest National Park and the beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than those in London, 13 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted and 13 nearby green spaces to enjoy.

Company

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust provides services to some 1.9 million people living in Southampton and south Hampshire, plus specialist services such as neurosciences, cardiac services and children's intensive care to more than 3.7 million people in central southern England and the Channel Islands.

The Trust is also a major centre for teaching and research in association with the University of Southampton and partners including the Medical Research Council and Wellcome Trust.

UHS gained foundation trust status on 1 October 2011.

Every year our 11,500 staff:

  • treat around 150,000 inpatients and day patients, including about 50,000 emergency admissions;
  • see over 624,000 people at outpatient appointments; and
  • deal with around 135,000 cases in our emergency department.

Providing these services costs £1.9 million a day.

We value our colleagues both within the hospital and across the health and social care sector because we know that they are working beside us with a common purpose.

So in our vision we are setting out who we are and what we stand for, as well as describing the current challenges we face and our priorities for the future.
