Working within Planned Programmes service's areas, you will take responsibility for one of the work areas that covers; external & communal maintenance & refurbishment of houses, flats (low & high rise), roof replacement programmes, fire safety improvement works, option appraisals, and planned kitchen/rewire installations.

You will be responsible for contract administration and delivery, of all technical elements of allocated projects/programmes; and will ensure Health and Safety, CDM Regulations responsibilities are met by in-house and external contractors. The role will require daily visits to residents homes and blocks, undergoing refurbishment, and will involve lone working. Experience in budget & risk management is also necessary. Quality control and post inspections will be an important part of the job, and checking claims made for payment are correct, prior to you recommending payment for works.

Duties include:

  • Carrying out repairs, stock condition improvement/refurbishment surveys of Council dwellings, buildings and land, as directed.
  • Assessing and diagnosing defects, specify and schedule work required, in consultation with the customer and stakeholders.
  • Specifying, measuring and ordering materials, equipment and joinery. Tendering works in conjunction with Procurement, ordering work through the Council's IT systems.
  • To be responsible for all aspects of assigned projects and programmes of work, contract administration and delivery of all technical elements.

Experience of surveying (to carry out improvements to residential property & other buildings) is required; and of working within social housing, will be beneficial. You will need good project management skills to deliver maintenance & refurbishment work programmes to the City Council's Housing stock, and will ensure works are carried out to a good quality, and that they achieve value for money. You will also be responsible for, and take ownership of, all aspects for assigned projects and programmes of works. This will be from setting up works through to completion, ensuring a satisfactory experience for all, dealing with any complaints that should arise from residents and stakeholders.
