The Role
The primary purpose of the role is to lead the Council’s development team of multi-disciplinary development professionals to deliver its assets and growth strategy, delivering complex development and regeneration schemes throughout the local area.
Job Responsibilities
As Head of Development the successful candidate will lead the delivery of new homes, schools, community facilities and capital receipts from scheme inception to completion. The role is positioned to work closely with the Asset & Growth strategy team maximising housing supply in line with the business plan and framework policies. In order to deliver the projected number of new homes the Head of Development will be required to manage programmes of capital projects, leading the appraisal and viability works, demonstrating a high level of financial acumen when overseeing financial development appraisals.
Developing external relationships will be a core factor to successfully delivering the Council’s development schemes on time and within budget, therefore building strong relationships with local partners, housing associations, governing bodies and outsourced contractors will be vital.
As a business team leader, you will be required to ensure that appropriate project management and performance management systems are in place to monitor, maintain and develop a high performing culture that is consistent with performance management frameworks.
What You’ll need to succeed
MRICS – Desirable (Not Essential)
A relevant construction, development or regeneration degree or equivalent paired with significant professional industry experience – Essential
Professional experience – A prior track record of delivering highly complex housing development schemes while leading internal and external teams competing projects on time and within budget. Financial skills are required to calculate feasibility and development appraisals, experience managing budgets of over £50m is desirable. A thorough knowledge of planning, land acquisition and community regeneration along with experience of working within public frameworks adhering to structured policies.
