We want to strengthen the Kent Police Estate Services Department with an experienced and highly professional Building Surveyor.  Reporting to the Architectural Building Surveyor, you will co-ordinate all administrative and technical functions and in doing so you will place the internal partners at the heart of the services in what you do.  Excellent stakeholder management and being communicative with internal and external partners will be essential.

The Building Surveyor will have a professional background and should be working towards becoming a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB), Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or equivalent.  The role requires them to hold other relevant qualifications including a degree within the built environment and that they can demonstrate considerable practical and technical experience within a large scale organisation in relation to building maintenance and project delivery.

The position should have an understanding of issues relating to building structures, building pathology, feasibility report writing, statutory regulations, equality and diversion principles and be able to carry out condition surveys.  A working knowledge and ability to undertake projects in accordance within Building Regulations and delivery of planning applications are also desirable.  Having a working knowledge of Police environments including the Estate and Operational impact to deliver projects and maintaining of the Estate are desirable.

It is essential that the role understands and manages health and safety, risk and project management involved to deliver projects being aware and how to mitigate their impact towards operational Policing and business continuity.

Experience in producing schemes, feasibilities, tender documentation and have proficient AutoCAD skills are essential.  Competent information technology skills, including a variety of Microsoft packages including Word and Excel are desirable.

The Building Surveyor will require the confidence and expertise to fulfil this role and be the recognised expert within this field for Kent Police.  Considerable drive and perseverance is essential in order to achieve demonstrable results if the role is to be successful.  Strong problem solving skills with an innovative approach to finding solutions that best fit the operational needs of the Force in the most cost effective way.  Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing are essential to enable the post holder to produce reports, briefings and presentations.

An analytical approach to problem solving and the ability to organise and prioritise workload, cost control management and meet key deadlines is essential.  The Building Surveyor will be required to travel within the county.  Flexible working hours are required to meet the needs of the business, typically 0800-1800.
