Your valuable technical engineering support for new build and refurbishment projects will be enhanced by advice on the design and physical integrity of buildings and other large structures.

You will calculate loads and stresses for any construction, factoring into designs the different qualities and strengths of a range of building materials, understanding how to incorporate support beams, columns and foundations. You must carry out and validate topographical and geotechnical surveys, resolve design and development problems, test building materials and provide engineering advice to stakeholders.

Holding a professional qualification in an appropriate technical discipline and Chartered Engineer status with ICE, IStructE or equivalent, you have an internationally recognised IT qualification and in Maths and Physics. With extensive experience of Civil/Structural Engineering you have held management and site supervision roles and have wide-ranging knowledge of structural design to British/European Standards in steel, concrete, timber and composite materials. Refined negotiation, analytical and creative problem solving skills will be essential, with the ability to manage four or five concurrent projects. Able to coordinate work carried out by different people and Directorates, you can explain complex matters to non-specialists and motivate at all levels .

We offer an extensive benefits package with 20 days leave pa, fare paid travel, freight, pension contribution and relocation allowance (see overseas vacancy information). An application form can be found at www.sthelenacareers.co.uk where further information can also be found, or you may contact Kedell Worboys on 0203 818 7610 or email: shgukrep@sthelenagov.com.

Applications must be sent via the application from below and received by 30 Sept 2019. Interviews will be held in London.

Due to the potential for high numbers of applications, if you have not heard from us within 2 weeks of the closing date you should assume you have not been short listed.  We would like to thank you for your interest in working for the St Helena Government.
