Job Details

Quantity Surveyor

St Helena Island, South Atlantic

1 year FTC commencing January 2020

£45k pa, taxable in St Helena; a tax free International Supplement will also apply

A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. Following the opening of its international airport in October 2017, St Helena is better placed to develop both economically and socially.

St Helena depends heavily on imported construction materials, with the main aggregate materials like stone and sand produced on-island. As such the costs associated with projects are inflated and vary from the international market.

You will manage all costs related to building and civil engineering projects from the initial calculations to the final figures, offering strategic and operational advice to Directors, Elected Members and the Department for International Development, ensuring statutory building regulations are met.

Preparing estimates and costs, you’ll keep track of any variations to the contract once the project is in progress, tracking changes to the design and/or construction work and adjusting budget projections accordingly. You will also prepare tender and contract documents. As you analyse cost quotations and actual costs of previous projects you will gain an understanding of the cost contingency (optimum bias) that should be applied to projects.

Holding a RICS accredited undergraduate degree in quantity surveying, commercial management or cost engineering, you have an internationally recognised qualification in ICT. With substantial experience as a Quantity Surveyor/commercial development sector, you are able to apply software such as Cubit PRO or PRISM. You understand RIBA Plan of Works 2013 and are comfortable in managing four or five concurrent projects.

We offer an extensive benefits package with 20 days leave pa, fare paid travel, freight, pension contribution and relocation allowance (see overseas vacancy information). An application form can be found at www.sthelenacareers.co.uk where further information can also be found, or you may contact Kedell Worboys on 0203 818 7610 or email: shgukrep@sthelenagov.com.

Applications must be received by 30 Sept 2019. Interviews will be held in London.

Due to the potential for high numbers of applications, if you have not heard from us within 2 weeks of the closing date you should assume you have not been short listed.  We would like to thank you for your interest in working for the St Helena Government.

Please apply to this position by filling in the form below and uploading your CV and cover letter.
