Maldon District Council are seeking to recruit into this exciting new position as Lead Specialist within its Community & Customers Team.

We are looking for someone dynamic who can bring excellent functional leadership into a multi-skilled specialist team. Someone who will embrace this opportunity to develop and grow the services continually fit for the 21st Century.

The role will be a key contributor, working with teams across the Council to provide technical mentoring and support and to encourage the transfer of specialist knowledge according to legislative requirements and best practice.

The postholder will be part of an Extended Management Team who will work together to meet the Corporate agenda dictated by national and local focus specific to the unique requirements of the Maldon District.

About this role

The Council have recently undergone an exciting transformation project designed to deliver its services with maximum efficiency whilst optimising its customer’s journey. As a result the post holder will lead a team of specialists who will work collaboratively across the organisation to support, guide and advice the multi-skilled service delivery teams.

The role is extremely diverse with the functional responsibility for Environmental Health, Revenues and Benefits, Strategic Housing and Waste Contract Management.

Whilst it is essential that the applicant holds a relevant qualification in one of the subject areas, the team consists of Senior Specialists in each of the functional fields. Their expertise will support the post holder to provide excellence within a community of practice across the wider organisation.

The operational aspect of the service will be managed by the Specialist Services Manager who will work closely with the Lead Specialist anticipated to contribute to operational matters including performance/1-1s and recruitment.

The postholder will be expected to consistently and professionally apply all policies and legislation relating to the relevant fields and to maintain a high level of competence within the specialist team.  This will involve contributing towards policy development, strategy, reviewing adequacy of procedures, coaching and mentoring of staff across the wider organisation.

The role will also involve attendance at various Committees and functional appeals/tribunals where necessary.
