Principal Building Surveyor - Cockermouth

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior/Principal Building Surveyor with experience of, and a real passion for, building surveying. Joining our existing building surveying and asset management team in the Cockermouth office, you will already have a wide range of valuable skills and knowledge from building pathology to contract admin through to project management. You will play an active role in providing all kinds of built environment services covering clients’ needs, varying from local residential projects to large commercial sites. Because of the incredibly varied nature of our work, it is vital that you are highly flexible and keen to learn and grow in all of the areas and sectors that we work in.

Your role

From day one, you will be immersed in a range of duties. We will expect you to lead and, at times, mentor junior team members when undertaking a variety of projects including condition surveys, design work, audits, special inspections and investigations, to name a few. You will produce reports, schedule maintenance work and support contract procurement and project management. Working with colleagues, who are experts in their field, you will discover how to develop leading edge solutions, maximise technical quality and efficiency, achieve project revenue targets and use specialist software. Crucially, you will exceed clients’ expectations.

You will be working towards achieving your chartered status within 12months or will have already achieved MRICS status.

About you

We will give you all the opportunities and support that you need to turn your fascination and determination in to important skills, rewarding achievements, recognised technical qualifications and, of course, a thrilling career. You should ideally have:-

  • Appropriate technical and professional qualification (MRICS preferred)
  • Excellent technical abilities
  • Proactive approach to new skills and learning
  • Knowledge of relevant software solutions
  • Full driving licence
  • Suitability for security clearance
  • A keen interest in building surveying, design and project management
  • Great communication skills, a collaborative approach and a proven ability to deliver on your promises

You will be joining the Cumbria based team who are part of the Asset Management sector of WYG. This team encompasses professionals throughout the UK, including members of RICS, CIBSE and the Institute of Asset Management, covering a range of disciplines including building surveying, building services, structural engineering, and asbestos consultancy.
