“People are proud to live and work in Lambeth where diversity is celebrated”

Lambeth is recruiting a Principal Area Surveyor within its Planning, Transport & Development Service. The role reporting to the Head of Building Control requires a dynamic person with the ability to effectively lead an area team within the Building Control Service, with strong technical expertise whilst working with the Head of Building Control to grow new business opportunities and the ability to develop new innovative approaches.

This role is essential in supporting the Council’s vision for inclusive growth across the borough. The Building Control service plays a central role in supporting regeneration as well as encouraging inward investment through ensuring sustainable development.

Lambeth is a vibrant borough located in the heart of London. Its favourable position attracts iconic projects by international developers and world class architects such as the redevelopment of Shell Centre in Waterloo. The borough is unique in its variety of locations stretching from Waterloo and Vauxhall in the north, with a distinctive range of prominent riverside development opportunities, with lively and diverse town centres such as Brixton and Clapham, through to Streatham and Norwood in the south.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience within the Building Control field, ideally with a track record in leading/working in successful teams. They will be experienced in working within a comparable service through a period of considerable change and ensuring the council is best placed to navigate through the significant challenges and opportunities present in the Building Control industry. They will be able to lead, motivate and manage staff to sustain and improve our service delivery.

To foster excellent managers, future leaders and technically strong staff Lambeth will look to develop your leadership, technical and solution finding skills.  To do this they will be provided with mentoring/support and given an opportunity to grow and develop within the role.
