Lead Quantity Surveyor – Various regional opportunities available

Are you a Managing or Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step in your career? Do you want to join a multinational electricity and gas utility company?

As a Lead Quantity Surveyor you will report to a regional commercial manager and be a part of National Grids Award Winning Contracts & Commercial team, providing commercial expertise on a diverse range of infrastructure projects from tender through to project completion, worth from £100k to £100m+.

You will be responsible for providing support and expertise on complex commercial disputes, and providing reasoned recommendations to senior management. This may result in the need to lead preparations for formal dispute proceedings. You will also be expected to ensure effective processes and measures are in place to avoid disputes entirely, and where they are not develop and implement such measures.

You will be seen as the go to person for contract management expertise by the business, ensuring contract and commercial practices employed by members of the team are robust and up to date with the latest industry best practice.

Acting as a mentor for individuals in the team seeking to gain MRICS accreditation, you’ll take responsibility for the professional & personal development of Quantity Surveyors and Junior Quantity Surveyors.

About You

  • Foundation degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or a similar discipline
  • MRICS qualified
  • Ability to act as a RICS mentor, therefore MRICS or other mentoring experience is desirable
  • Experience of coaching and development in cost assurance and contract management skills
  • Experience of adjudication/dispute resolution and avoidance
  • Experience of analysing and negotiating complex compensation events and variations, cost analysis, programme evaluation, commercial acumen and supply chain management skills
  • Experience of engineering projects carried out under the NEC3 form of contract, experience in other contract types is desirable
  • Knowledge of earned value management and monitoring cost performance
  • Experience of working within infrastructure or utilities
  • Knowledge of electricity/gas transmission systems is desirable
  • Hold a full valid UK driving licence

  • A competitive salary up to £64,000, dependent on capability
  • Market supplement of £1,500 (subject to annual review)
  • Company car if eligible – must meet requirements
  • 25 days holiday plus 8 statutory days – option available to buy extra holiday days
  • Annual performance bonus of up to 5% of your salary
  • A generous pension scheme where we will double match up to 6% (maximum Company contribution of 12%) of your salary each month i.e. for every £1 you contribute, we’ll put another £2 (you can contribute more un-matched if you want to)
