The appointment of a new Development Director within the Strategic Land & Regeneration business unit is an important role in its new national structure. Job Description

You will have the exciting opportunity of identifying and securing high value and complex development opportunities across the South West. Seeking out opportunities for the acquisition of strategic sites - you will help the business achieve its placemaking ambition by setting the strategy that delivers on its purpose; embedding yourself from project bids and land assembly through to delivery and asset disposal or transfer.

Typically, your role will involve:

Implementation of the agreed strategic land strategy for the acquisition / development / disposal or transfer of schemes to the Investment Portfolio.

  • Focused on identifying and securing new development opportunities working in collaboration with the asset management, planning, technical and project management teams

Leading the development of complex and high value developments - defining and agreeing the development strategy and business plan. This could include:

  • Accountability for appraisals, valuations, budgets and cash flow
  • Generation of the site strategy, embedding their purpose and placemaking focus, ensuring what they create reflects what customers require
  • Steering project managers to ensure the development meets the brief agreed
  • Working alongside Planning to liaise with external bodies to achieve planning permission
  • Instigating, reviewing and challenging design proposals
  • Effectively managing external stakeholder relations through all phases of the development
  • Co-ordination of marketing, leasing and sale of scheme

Managing the preparation of bids and working with the Investment Committee

  • Ensuring bids are managed effectively.
  • Working across the business unit to ensure the appraisal, evaluation and site proposition is fully understood and presented with clear success measures in place

Developing relationships with key stakeholders, building on existing networks and identifying new networking opportunities

  • Developing the profile of St. Modwen with regional stakeholders so that we are considered as a developer of choice within the region

The Successful Applicant

  • Significant experience operating across the property spectrum - Commercial, Residential and Major Projects.
  • Extensive experience of complex developments with associated skills and knowledge
  • A proven track record in the delivery of large-scale development opportunities
  • Successful at negotiating and managing all aspects of the acquisition, development, leasing and disposal process
  • Exceptional technical, management and financial skills
  • A track record of successfully leading multi-disciplined teams
  • Strong professional network, ability to build trust and relationships
  • Member of the RICS preferred along with relevant professional qualifications
