About the Department

Our Procurement and Commercial team are responsible for helping the business to procure services and materials in a timely and cost-effective way.  We work right across the SSE Group, ensuring our businesses gets the best possible service and value from our supplier network, as well as ensuring all service providers are compliant and continue to meet contractual obligations and business need.

What is the Role

Reporting to the Head of Procurement & Commercial, Power Distribution you will provide ‘best in class’ service to internal customers which will include project support, procurement, contracting, supply chain, commercial and contractual input to development, construction and operational teams. You will facilitate the development and execution of procurement and commercial strategies which are aligned with category plans, company and business objectives.

Understanding and supporting the development of strategic relationships with key suppliers you will effectively manage key interfaces with points of contact in a business unit and with the wider procurement and commercial team along with supporting project requirements both internally and externally if required.

You will ensure compliance with all internal controls (legal, financial, risk, quality etc.) including the Major Projects Governance Framework Manual and ideally external regulatory requirements including the EU Utilities Procurement Directives. You will demonstrate value leadership, customer service and innovation to support the vision in becoming a world class provider of Procurement and Commercial services and embed a consistent approach to reduce the total cost of ownership by achieving targets set in this area.

You will be responsible for delivery of all contracts (Goods, Works & Services including the administration and compliance with contract terms during design, delivery and construction phases for all projects.

You will have demonstrable experience of engaging and influencing senior management, managing all post contract commercial matters including negotiating/agreeing compensation events, forecast and expenditure management

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you will be MRICS/degree educated or have an equivalent direct entry to a recognised appropriate professional body and have previous experience in a similar role where you were responsible for the contacting strategy and post contract commercial management of construction contracts (ideally NEC ECC, ECSC). You will have detailed knowledge and experience of complex contract structures and documentation, have a high level of competence in drafting and interpreting construction contracts and experience managing suppliers and sub-contractors, and supplier development and management. It is essential that you are proficient in the use of P2P procurement related systems and have experience of managing change requirements within organisations. Due to your previous experience in an operational multifaceted business you will have an understanding of supply chain concepts and how to improve them. 

Demonstrable stakeholder engagement and managements skills are essential, as is the ability to influence, lead and resolve disputes and problem solve. You will have excellent communication and presentation skills, strong commercial acumen, and a continuous improvement mind set.

As travel will be essential throughout the UK, a Full UK Driving Licence will be essential.
