Air Quality Officer role in East London

This public-sector organisation based in East London is currently looking to recruit an Air Quality Officer to join their Environmental Health and Trading Standards team. The team provides an expert service to deliver the Councils statutory responsibility to enforce legislation and protect public health.

Your new role
As an air pollution officer, you will be responsible for assisting the team collecting their monitoring tubes and dealing with pollution enquires. As well as being able to assist other officers by providing advice to the community, the service and to other Council Departments on matters related to air quality management.

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Carry out air pollution investigations, monitoring, control and enforcement
• Check and maintain the councils air pollution monitoring stations
• Maintain the NOX monitoring program
• Ensuring that community complaints are investigated, and that current legislation and best guidance is complied with
• Assist in the development and implementation of the Councils Air Quality action plan
• To undertake programmed and complaint inspections, surveys and investigations under all relevant Environmental Health Legislation
• Prepare case reports and make recommendations for legal proceedings and provide briefings for legal representatives

What you'll need to succeed
To be the successful candidate you will need to have a degree in the Environmental Sciences. You will need to have experience of implementing Air Quality strategies and investigation of pollution cases. It will also enhance your application if you are able to use IT and equipment including, Spatial Mapping software. You will also need to have knowledge of air quality and pollution control as well as general knowledge of legislation, policy and practice on air quality.
