Regional Estates Manager - Scotland
£46,410 - £54,600 (dependent on experience) + Vehicle
Our purpose is simple, to save lives at sea. Since the 19th century, our crews have been risking their lives to save those who are in danger of drowning. We’re looking for a Regional Estates Manager to join our Scotland region. We have six Regional Technical Cells based in each of our regional bases around the UK and Republic of Ireland. The Regional Technical Cell supports the RNLI through providing rapid and effective first-line technical support to the volunteers and staff who carry out and support our front-line lifesaving services.

As a Regional Estates Manager, you will be tasked with focus on the following areas:
- Leading and providing specialist advice on all RNLI buildings, civil engineering construction and maintenance related projects across RNLI’s Scottish Estate
- In partnership with the Regional Engineering and Supply Lead, supporting the Regional Leadership Team and Regional Technical Cell to develop and execute a strategy for the RNLI’s infrastructure and assets. In doing so you will demonstrate the highest levels of collaborative working and collective responsibility
- Managing and developing a team of Coastal Estates Engineers and act as the primary Estates lead within the region
- Supervising your team to deliver building inspections, support new construction activity, undertake condition-based maintenance, repairs, and compliance checks
- Supporting the development of the estate elements of the Regional Strategy in association with the Regional Engineering and Supply Lead
- Ensuring that the through-life planning of the Scottish Estate aligns with the central Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP)
- Working closely with Estates Engineers to support the delivery of construction projects
- Developing and implementing a best-in-class through-life programme of routine maintenance works, specifically focusing on, compliance, quality, sustainability and value for money, whilst managing risk to support the RNLI’s Scottish Estate
- Preparing and managing the delegated capital expenditure and operational expenditure budgets for the Regional Estate and ensure that the management of the estate is delivered to plan and within budget
- Giving relevant specialist subject matter expertise/advice when required across all regions and ensure standards are met
- Taking the lead for regional activities such as mooring installation and repair campaigns
You’ll be an effective self-motivated team player, with good communication and influencing skills both internally and externally. You’ll be familiar with a variety of engineering equipment and their design, production or support. Ideally, you’ll have some maritime experience and will relish the challenge of resolving technical queries outside of your comfort zone.

You’ll be able to handle time-dependent demands so that we can keep our lifesaving assets on service. You’ll enjoy working on diverse projects with a mix of challenges and be able to communicate at all levels. You’ll be happy with travel, occasional nights away and supporting an on call/duty roster.
As a development opportunity, we expect that the role holder will be happy to periodically move between locations including other bases and the RNLI support centre in Poole, with the aim of creating a community of engineering expertise aware of and capable of addressing the RNLI’s technical needs now and into the future.
To be considered as the Regional Estates Manager, you will need:
- An Engineering or other suitable degree qualification equivalent to the England, Wales & Northern Ireland qualification level 6 or higher as defined by UK government
- Incorporated Engineer Status
- NEBOSH National Construction Certificate
- A valid driving licence
- Membership of, or working towards, a professional body such as CIOB, ICE or RICS
- Specialist construction knowledge and experience of asset inspection and routine maintenance works at a professional level
- Extensive experience of building and civil construction and maintenance, ideally in a maritime environment
- Experience of working in a commercial and continuous improvement environment, implementing new and innovative processes and procedures
