Full time, permanent vacancy based in Worthing and surrounding areas
As an Estates Surveyor you will be an integral part of the Estates Service working directly with our Project Support Officers, Team Leaders, Assistant Estates Surveyors and Senior Estates Surveyors. You will be involved in a wide variety of surveying work: keeping your days varied and interesting whilst building your knowledge and experience. There will be opportunities for you to develop yourself further as you get involved in some large construction projects where you will be given the opportunity to use your influencing skills and depending on your skill and experience could even manage them. You will also be involved in wide range of work including our national flood risk programme, looking after various operational projects, managing a diverse land portfolio and getting involved in the acquisition and compensation programme for major capital works. You will be have the opportunity to mentor other team members, particularly those progressing towards full RICS membership.
With a focus on our customers, this role will involve regular travel around your work area including some remote locations and local and national travel. A full and valid driving licence is essential. You will be provided with a vehicle to carry out this work if required.
You will hold an appropriate RICS qualification (including AssocRICS), and have relevant land and property experience with a proven track record of delivering results in an operational environment. Your experience will include managing a diverse land and property portfolio, including property management, valuation and dealing with landlord and tenant issues to provide sustainable use and deliver best practice. With a good understanding of planning, property and compensation legislation and ideally compulsory purchase procedures, you’ll be able to provide advice on land and compensation matters to minimise project risk and compensation liabilities. As a confident negotiator, you will be able to secure access and appropriate interests, along with settling compensation claims. With up-to-date knowledge of current legislation and best practice, you’ll be able to support other members of your team and provide advice on surveying matters. A credible and enthusiastic communicator with good networking skills, you will build strong networks and influence a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders for the effective resolution of issues.

The Estates Service offers professional support for Environment Agency land, property, compensation and valuation matters. Our experienced Chartered Surveyors specialise in negotiating access to sites so that our frontline colleagues can do their vital work. We deal with compensation claims from land and property owners where they have suffered loss as a consequence of the Environment Agency's work. We also manage the Environment Agency's own landholdings and provide a comprehensive valuation service.
