The role

We’re looking for a Senior Surveyor to join our West Regional team. The successful candidate will work to deliver our planned and major work programs ensuring effective procurement, delivery, technical compliance and project governance, while ensuring Hastoe maintains and repairs our properties whilst striving for value for money and in accordance with the legal requirements.

The role covers our West region, which includes Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Chichester, East and West Sussex and Tunbridge Wells. The role will be home based with the requirement to attend our Dorchester Office on a weekly basis.

The key duties include:

  • Project Delivery – You’ll take the lead as Contract Administrator and Project Manager for projects and be responsible for preparing specifications, schedules of works, and contract documents for tendering or pricing by contractors to meet Hastoe’s planned maintenance and major works programmes. You’ll also plan and complete stock condition inspections to provide high levels of data quality and partner with colleagues in the responsive repairs teams by picking up repair works and assisting with more challenging and difficult to diagnose response repair issues

  • Providing Technical Expertise - You’ll actively contribute to the development of key strategies such as Resident Involvement, Customer First, and Asset Management strategy and provide professional advice externally on behalf of Hastoe.

  • Relationship Management – You’ll need to develop and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, contractors, residents and colleagues. You’ll counsel our Major Works Surveyor through the Assessment of Professional Competence to become a Chartered Member of RICS, as well as actively involve residents in the planning and delivering of projects.

  • Reporting – You’ll deputise for the Property Services Manager in their absence or as otherwise required and prepare reports for senior management, the Executive Team, Board and Sub Committees.

 

What we are looking for

You’ll need to be a self-motivated, commercially astute individual who is committed to delivering an excellent customer service for our residents. You will need to have an excellent working knowledge of building construction, The Building Regulations and Health & Safety legislation. You’ll also need:

  • HNC, HND or degree level qualification in building construction related subject

  • MRICS

  • A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience or equivalent

  • Experience of managing projects using term contracts and SOR’s

  • Experience using housing management systems (Hastoe use MIS)

  • An understanding of building pathology and ability to diagnose complex building related defects.

  • To be aware of regulations concerning fire prevention, legionella and asbestos

  • Good report and specification writing skills and experience of ISO9000 accreditation

  • To be socially aware and committed to excellent customer service to all customers, internal and external.

  • To be able to set and achieve high standards and resilient under pressure

  • To hold a valid driving licence and have use of your own vehicle.
