Estate Manager, Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust

The Historic Dockyard Chatham is a thriving community with 115 residential properties, over 100 commercial tenants, including the University of Kent with 600 students, and a visitor attraction receiving up to 180,000 visitors a year.

It is a unique heritage environment, being the most complete Dockyard of the age of sail in the world. The estate is owned and operated by Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust (The Trust), an independent charity, that has transformed the formally derelict post-industrial site into the 21st Century, 24/7, place that it is today.

More detail about the Trust and its operations can be found at https://thedockyard.co.uk/

The Estate Manager is a strategically important role for the Trust, as we look to increase the strength and knowledge within our Estates Team. Working within a small team, you will be responsible for a diverse range of property related activity within a unique, mixed-use, heritage environment.

This is a new role focussed on the management, administration and advancement of our established commercial and residential tenant portfolio. An important part of the role will be to establish processes and systems to improve the efficient management of the estate. There is a complex ecology of uses across the site that must be balanced in harmony. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an understanding of this sensitivity and a willingness to work with team members in other departments to enhance and develop the functionality and effectiveness of our operations.

The role is likely to suit a property professional looking to develop a career in a demanding but rewarding role or a more experienced operator who is perhaps looking to work in a complex but smaller scale environment. The role will report to the Director of Historic Environment and Buildings.

At the Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust it is our ambition to create an inclusive culture which attracts all candidates and demonstrates our commitment to celebrate and promote diversity.

The Job Description and Application Form are available on the Trust’s website https://thedockyard.co.uk/our-charity/recruitment/ Applications should be made using the form provided but should be supported by a full CV and cover letter (maximum length, two sides A4) indicating why the applicant’s personal experience makes them the right person for the job.

The closing date for applications is 10am on 14th December 2020, with interviews being held on 18th December 2020.
