Project Manager (Nuclear)

We have a career opportunity to work on behalf of one of our key nuclear customers as a project manager. The successful individual will, ideally, be based in our Cumbria office (with the possibility of working from our Manchester or Chorley office), with a combination of working from home and occasional visits to the client site, Sellafield. 

Reporting to the Nuclear Projects Associate Director, the successful individual will be required to monitor and control the technical strategy, added value and control progress report project(s) to ensure that all goals, objectives and schedules are delivered. The project manager will be responsible for maintaining and monitoring project plans, project schedules, work hours, budgets and expenditures. Organizing, attending and participating in stakeholder meetings. Undertaking project tasks as required.

Key Requirements:

The candidate must have Nuclear experience, preferably with Sellafield and has or can obtain security clearance to a minimum level of SC.

Work Scope:

As a Project Manager they will be accountable for the management and delivery of a project or multiple projects within our organisation across the full project life cycle. They will be responsible for the successful end-to-end delivery of projects, within the agreed time, cost and quality parameters and ensuring that projects are successfully monitored, documented, tracked and reported, in accordance with our project management framework.

They will be assigned to work on one or more projects at a time across the business. This is an intermediate-level practitioner role and to be successful they will need to be able to adapt quickly to new stakeholders, business domains, and be committed to continually developing your skills as a project management professional.

The role scope will include:

  • Supports the Deputy PMO in the management of the Programme Projects
  • Coordinate preparation of the Integrated Management System elements
  • Performs governance of projects against project management process requirements
  • Support in audit of project controls approach
  • Support to review of project monthly reports
  • Managing the production of the required deliverables
  • Planning and monitoring the project
  • Preparing and maintaining project, stage and exception plans as required
  • Managing project risks, including the development of contingency plans
  • Liaison with programme management (if the project is part of a programme) and related projects to ensure that work is neither overlooked nor duplicated
  • Monitoring overall progress and use of resources, initiating corrective action where necessary
  • Applying change control and configuration management processes
  • Reporting through agreed lines on project progress through highlight reports and end-stage assessments
  • liaison with appointed project assurance representatives to assure the overall direction and integrity of the project
  • Maintaining an awareness of potential interdependencies with other projects and their impact
  • Identifying and obtaining support and advice required for the management, planning and control of the project
  • Managing project administration
  • Conducting a project evaluation review to assess how well the project was managed and preparing any follow-on action recommendations

Deliverables/Outputs

Manage the delivery of projects outputs:

  • Provide project management (time, cost, quality, control and fit for purpose) services for all projects, ranging from business as usual change to substantive strategic projects.
  • Ensure defined project management methodologies, tools and templates are applied and used.
  • Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and key stakeholders. and identify future needs.
  • Manage contracts with external suppliers to the project.
  • Develop project plans, project deliverables and communication documents as defined by PMO.

Identify and manage risks and issues:

  • Identify project issues or risks and manage or escalate where appropriate.
  • Escalate risks and issues as necessary to your manager where appropriate.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.

Manage and document your project and progress:

  • Plan and track project timelines and milestones using appropriate project planning tools.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, and requirements document presentations to key stakeholders.
  • Proactively manage any changes in the project scope.
  • Mentor, support and regularly engage with key project stakeholders and your people to build capability across the project.
