Lancaster City Council is pleased to offer this exciting new opportunity to lead its Building Control Team.

If you are dedicated to safeguarding the protection of our communities by insisting on high standards of construction practice and helping to deliver buildings that are energy efficient and climate-resilient, then we want to hear from you.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic building control professional who can demonstrate an extensive knowledge of all aspects of building control and ancillary legislation.  You will act as the Council’s lead professional in terms of providing building control guidance, and therefore you will have a proven track record of managing and resolving building regulation projects.

You will be committed to delivering a positive, commercially focused and forward-thinking customer service, and will seek to foster constructive relationships with developers, architects and builders.

You must have corporate membership of RICS, CABE or CIOB or a similar professional/industry body.

A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to visit building and development sites as part of the role.

The hours of work for this position are 37 per week, working at Morecambe Town Hall (although currently, remote working arrangements are in place).  Occasionally you may be required to undertake standby duties to cover emergency out of hours work.  The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post.  Subject to the needs of the business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 0600-2230.

To find out more about the role, please contact Mark Cassidy, Head of Planning and Place, on 01524 582390 or via mcassidy@lancaster.gov.uk

Earlier last year Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.

Other excellent benefits include: A Local Government Pension Scheme (the Council makes a 15.5% contribution). Discounted gym membership and discount on days out, activities and retail.

Closing date: Tuesday, 19 January 2021

Interview date: Thursday 28th January 2021 and Friday 29th January 2021.
